What the Tr**ma?!
Trauma is a common word we hear these days, but what exactly is it?
Trauma goes beyond everyday stressors. It is a reaction to traumatic events that have caused changes to take place in our being. Not everyone who went through a traumatic event will experience trauma. And not everyone who is experiencing trauma is aware of it.
Trauma changes the way our brain, nervous system and body reacts to experiences. These physiologically based, somatic reactions are sometimes felt without connecting the sensation to the traumatic event. There's no need to go back to the event to redirect the reaction.
Regardless, when we start to do the deep work, reactions that we are unable to control often float to the surface. It is important to have a compassionate, empathetic, educated practitioner, aware of how to respond to these reactions.
Because I work with many people who have or are currently experiencing trauma, it was important to me that I obtain the proper training. I take the vital information gathered during my training into every session I offer, allowing me to be
Mindful of the words I use in Yoga Therapeutics
Thoughtful of what's asked in a Coaching Session
Aware of energetic disharmony in Reiki sessions
Conscious of the way I touch in a Bodywork session
If this is something you would benefit from, simply mention that you would like your sessions to be "trauma informed" in the intake paperwork. You do not have to share anymore than that at the time. We will address anything that arises in session, without force, but instead compassionate curiosity.
